Using clearfix
Here is a lot more text and who knows where this is going; I'm just writing in text to see where this goes and will the clearfix work or not. Clearfix is attached to the red border around these two floated text divs.
Not using clearfix
Notice the thick red rule just above this text. The div, with two floated elements in it (which takes them out of the normal flow of the document), has collapsed.
